My boy/girl twins’ 2nd birthday party was last year, but I finally am ready to post about their fun-filled butterflies and race cars- themed bash.
My twins are waiting for the guests to arrive:
With boy/girl twins, it is hard to combine interests, so you either have to compromise ( think “rainbow” and “the zoo”) or try and have two different parties, woven into one. My little boy loves race cars and my girl is all girly and I really wanted to make them both happy and give them what they would like for their second birthday, instead of bringing home a goat for the guests to pet.
There is almost no chance to have butterflies and race cars two as one party, so first of all, I divided our (outdoor) party room. One half was for the boys and another one- for the girls.
For entertainment, sensory tubs were a big hit. For the boys, we had a wooden garage with cars brought outside, a road carpet, so that they could drive their cars on it and a coffee-filled sensory tub for the “dirt aspect” of it as well as a small slide, so that they could race their cars down the slide.
I bought these pretty butterfly floating candles on orientaltrading.com to decorate the table with.
We used pink and light blue vinyl tablecloths and sprinkled some decorative butterflies on the pink tablecloth. We put some erasers, shaped like street signs onto the blue tablecloth.
I bought some butterflies and checkered race flags from Oriental Trading to decorate our yard with.
My little girl wore butterfly wings and we used another set of wings to decorate the party room.
For food, we had pasta buffet. We also had chickpea salad and orange slices. Pasta buffet is an easy and versatile way to entertain. You make 3-4 kinds of pasta ( colored, white, whole wheat, gluten-free, different shapes, etc.) You make two sauces: a red one and a white one. Our party was in the fall, so instead of a white sauce, I made pumpkin sauce.
Then you serve a variety of vegetables, meats, cheeses, etc, so that people can make their own bowl of pasta. Fresh and sun dried tomatoes, broccoli, grated parmesan, canned tuna, pesto sauce are of your good option. To save time, refrigerate them in Tupperware containers, so that on the day of the event you only have pasta to cook.
For cups, plates and utensils, we used light blue plates for the race car part of the party as well as red utensils with red cups. For the butterfly party, we used everything pink. We used these butterfly plates for the girls.
For drinks, we used bottled water which we had decorated with printouts from our Etsy order.
