Is crust really necessary?
Truth be told–is this a confession?--I don’t really like pie crust.
Much like I never thought plain white bread was necessary for BBQ, sometimes I think crust just gets in the way.
After receiving a recipe in my inbox for Nectarine and Blackberry Pie on Tuesday morning, my mouth started watering, but not because of the pie itself. I’ll save myself for the good stuff,* thankyouverymuch.
*Whether it’s pig or pie filling.
Local black– and blue–
not to be confused with the backstreet boys album.
–(berries) that just weren’t as sweet as they looked…
…with sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and a pinch of salt.
A little time in the oven is all it takes to make those berries sing.
Black and blue, yes, but much sweeter than a bruise. Black-and-Blue (Berry) Pie Filling
1 cup blackberries
1 cup blueberries
1 Tbsp. demerara (or other brown) sugar
1/2 Tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. vanilla
pinch of salt
Combine all ingredients into two small ramekins or a small baking dish, stirring well. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
