It’s been a little quiet around here for the past couple of weeks, due mostly to the fact that everything else around me has been positively buzzing. To start, a trip to Maryland took up a few days, but I saw some great things that I’m eager to share.
Some find it shocking that I lived in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for 18 years and, until recently, never once hiked the beloved (and sometimes cursed) Billy Goat Trail . With my new love for outdoor activity, I decided that needed to change and enlisted the help of my good friend, Peter, who hikes the Billy Goat at least twice a week.
Peter is a very merry fellow; perhaps because he spends so much time among such natural beauty.
To provide some background information, the National Park Service describes the Billy Goat as “a very Physically demanding trail”; the Washington Post warns that it consists largely of “steep ravines and large boulders to traverse,” a fact of which I was not informed in advance. Nevertheless, we had a great afternoon with magnificent surroundings.
We started with a wooded path not far from the famed Old Anglers Inn .
I attempted to climb a tree, which didn’t end well, but at least Peter was amused as he captured this photo.
