We did a fun Montessori-inspired study of animals in the winter in our homeschool preschool. We learned that animals do one of three things to cope with the harsh conditions of the winter: they migrate, they adapt or they hibernate. We learned which animals do what, using clear explanation and beautiful images.
I printed out these cards to help the lesson. I also laminated the cards to be able to reuse them later. I was amazed at how interested the kids were.
First, we discussed the three possibilities of animal behavior in the winter: what they meant and how they were done. Then the kids had to arrange the animal cards into three columns: animals that hibernate, animals that adapt and animals that migrate. I learned a lot, too!
