A Teenybopper’s Dream!!…

Posted Jan 23 2013 6:43am

Hi there!  Happy Wednesday to you!  It is absolutely frigid outside today!  I think this is the coldest it’s been in a very long time here in the Philadelphia area.  When I check the temperature on my phone, it says it’s 12 degrees but feels like 1 degree!  That is just a little too cold for me.  Our house is freezing all the time and running the heat barely works.  So Mike and I walk around the house in massive amounts of layers and shove ourselves under blanket next to the space heater every single night.  Last night was really bad because it was beyond the point of cold.  Our house just doesn’t hold heat.  That is another reason for why we want to move.  The reasons just keep piling up.

Anyway, so on the View yesterday there was a major announcement made for teenyboppers at heart, like me!  I have to admit, I am a teenybopper.  My favorite boy band though was 98 Degrees!  I have seen them in concert many times.  Melissa even got us tickets to see my favorite member, Jeff Timmons at a jazz club several years back.  We were right next to the stage and I even got to go up on stage at one point and touch Jeff’s arm!  Ahh!  I was in heaven!  So you can only imagine how I felt when I heard that 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men are going to be opening up for New Kids on the Block’s new tour!!!!!  I was always a big fan of Boyz II Men and NKOTB also!  So all three groups on a tour together?!  I can hardly contain myself!

The tour is coming to Philly in June and I am definitely going to try to get Melissa and I tickets!  I have to be there to see 98 Degrees!  I seriously cannot believe they are coming back after all of these years.  I can only imagine what the crowd is going to be there.  It’s probably going to be people my age and older screaming like little girls.  Hah!  I don’t even care!  I’m proud to release my inner teenybopper.  Were you a fan of boy bands back in the day?  Have you ever seen any of them in concert?  Do you want to go to this concert?!

Enough about my teenybopper ways, let’s get to dinner from last night.   We decided to eat the last two fish filets from the Gorton’s Fisherman Skillet Crisp Tilapia we had a couple of weekends ago.

I roasted some string beans to go along with the filet and I made sweet potato wedges.  You might think sweet potato wedges, they don’t look orange or yellow.  I was thinking the same exact thing.  I picked some up at the produce store and it said on the front of the display, New Jersey Sweet Potatoes.  I thought it was interesting that they weren’t orange.  I wanted to try them.

I think they pretty much taste like any other type of sweet potatoes that I’ve had before in the past.  I was curious about them though so I did some research.  There are differences between sweet potatoes and yams.  I believe that I have had yams before and never a real sweet potato.  According to the Library of Congress , yams are starchy and drier than sweet potatoes.  Sweet potatoes skin color can range from white to yellow, red, purple or brown. The flesh also ranges in color from white to yellow, orange, or orange-red.  Sweet potato are classified as either firm or soft.  When cooked, those in the firm category remain firm, while soft varieties become soft and moist.   It is the soft varieties that are often labeled as yams in the United States.

As you can see, I had the yellow-dry fleshed sweet potato.  I think I prefer the orange sweet potato because it is typically softer and that is what you think of when you think of a sweet potato.  I just thought it was so interesting because I have never had the yellow sweet potato before.  You can see on the chart above, the Jersey Yellow that I had for dinner last night.  I just think it’s so interesting because I never really knew the difference before.  Do you like sweet potatoes?  Do you have a preference from sweet potatoes or yams?

Alrighty, well that is all I have for today.  I hope you have a lovely Wednesday!  Bundle up!  It’s freezing outside!
