A Fall-Like Weekend…

Posted Sep 19 2011 7:34am

Hi there!  Happy Monday!  I hope all of you had a great weekend!  I had an intentions of blogging this weekend and then I just didn’t sit down and do it.  Sometimes you need to take the weekend to yourself and I guess that is what I did.  It’s been very chilly here lately.   It feels a lot like fall and I’m loving it!  Although, I think this is short-lived because it’s supposed to go to the 80′s, I think later on in the week.  Hopefully it will stay like fall soon.  I love the cooler temperatures.  Well let’s get you caught up on my weekend happenings.

On Friday, there was so much traffic driving home.  It literally took me almost 2 hours to get home!  By the time I was approaching my house, I couldn’t wait to just get out of the car.  The last thing you want to do on a Friday afternoon is get stuck in your car driving home.  All I wanted to do was relax.  It took Mike a really long time to get home too.  Traffic was just bad all around on Friday.  We decided that neither one of us felt like cooking so we decided to go out to eat.  We have been trying not to go out to eat as much so that we can conserve our money.  A wedding is expensive!  Plus, I’d rather eat at home anyway unless the food is fabulous where we are going.

We decided to go to one of our favorite restaurants, the Porterhouse Restaurant and Brew Pub .  I’ve talked about this place before. It’s located in Lahaska near Peddler’s Village.  The only thing I dislike about this restaurant is the host.  The woman is so freaking rude to the customers.  We walked up and were waiting to be seated.  She completely ignored us and left herself to be engrossed in a full-blown conversation with someone else!  She knew we were standing there too because she glanced over. We stood there for a good 5-10 minutes waiting.  It’s a shame she ruins your first impression of the restaurant because the service is good and the food is even better.

I ordered the Portobello Sandwich (sorry for the blurry picture)

The best sandwich with sweet potato fries!

This sandwich is ridiculously amazing!  The portobello mushroom is perfectly cooked.  The bread is soft.  The seasonings are just right.  The sweet potato fries have to be the best I’ve ever had.  I just love ordering this meal from the Porterhouse.  You know it’s always going to be good.  Their beers are a little too expensive though.  They are like $5.50 for one beer!  Ridiculous!

After dinner, we came home and I couldn’t even keep my eyes open.  I think I fell asleep around 10pm.  Yeah, I know.  I’m ashamed to have fallen asleep so early on the weekend.  I was tired though!

Saturday morning, I woke up with one thing on my mind, PUMPKIN!  I was excited to try a new product that Melissa and I found in Target last week!  Take a look at this baby!

Eggo Pumpkin Spice Waffles!!!

As soon as I saw these Eggo Pumpkin Spice Waffles on the shelf, I knew I had to have them!  I am a lover of all things pumpkin!  This is no exception!  Of course I washed my pumpkin waffles down with pumpkin coffee!  What else would I have drank with it?  ;)

Eggo Pumpkin Spice Waffles

They were delicious for a frozen waffle!  They had an amazing pumpkin flavor.  It almost tasted homemade!  I loved it!  I’ve heard that they are flying off the shelves.  So I think I might need to stock up!  These are excellent!

The rest of the day, Mike and I ran some errands.  We actually ran into Mike’s cousin and her boyfriend at Best Buy.  So we ended up standing there and talking for a while.  It was nice.  We finished running our errands and went home to get a start on dinner!  I was very excited for dinner because I was using a product that I have dying to try since I first noticed it in Trader Joe’s!

The star of our meal!

These sounded so good!  I knew that we had to try them out!

We started off by cooking small slices of zucchini and green bell pepper in a skillet sprayed with cooking spray.  I seasoned the veggies with garlic salt and some pepper.  When they were tender, I added slices of 2 Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage links.

Everything cooking in the pan!

I made some pasta to go along with this meal.

Once everything was cooked, I added the pasta and sauce to the skillet to combine everything together.

Chicken Apple Sausage

This dinner was delicious and very quick to make!  I loved the flavor of the chicken sausage.  It was sweet but not overly sweet.  It added that sweetness to the entire pasta dish!  I was a fan.  We both agreed that we liked the chicken sausages.  I’ve never had chicken sausage before and I really liked it.  I can tell I will be buying this more often now!  :)   Maybe not the TJ brand because it’s pricy but I can see buying something like it in the future for sure.

After dinner, we went over to Melissa and my mom’s house for a little while.  Then we went with Melissa to Chickie’s and Pete’s to hang out and watch the Phillies game.  We were able to watch the Phillies make their big win and hear everyone cheer in the bar!  It was a nice moment!  I was able to enjoy my Sam Adam’s Octoberfest.  Yum!

Sunday, Mike and I went food shopping.  We did really well for ourselves at the store.  We got a ton of stuff and didn’t end up spending a lot of money.  There were a ton of deals at ShopRite.  We tried a new ShopRite this time, other from the one I went to last week.  It was nice!  So now we have two options for ShopRite instead of the one that I had the issue with.  I like that.

After shopping, Mike’s family asked if we wanted to join them for dinner.  Before we went out to dinner, they said that they had a gift for us.  It was a massively huge box.  Mike and I both looked at each other puzzled as to what it could be.  We started unwrapping the paper, and before we knew it, we became proud owners of our very own KitchenAid Mixer!  Along with the pasta attachment!

I can’t wait to begin baking and cooking with this mixer!  I have been wanting one for the longest time.  It was really nice of them to buy that for us!  :)   So if you have any good recipes for me to try with this mixer, please forward them along!

After opening our gift, we went to a local pizza place for dinner.  I had two slices of Margarita pizza.

The pizza was alright.  I pushed most of the tomatoes and seasonings off my slice. I am very picky with pizza.   I usually like to just make it at home myself.  I’m excited that I will be able to make my own pizza dough now!  That will be awesome!  Plus, it will be a lot healthier and more rewarding to have made the entire pizza from scratch.

After dinner, Mike and I went home.  I spent the rest of the night chatting on Facebook with Melissa and watching the Emmy’s.  They were so boring to me.  I was half paying attention.  I don’t watch a lot of the shows that were nominated so I guess that is why I had no interest.  I’m excited for Dancing with the Stars tonight!  I hope it’s good.  Plus, all of the other shows starting this week!  Cannot wait!

So tell me, what did you do this weekend?  What was the highlight?  Any shows you are looking forward to watching this week?

Alright time to get back to work!  Happy Monday!
