A Disney Secret….

Posted Mar 28 2013 6:48am

Hi there!  Happy Thursday to you!  I am so happy that the weekend is near.  I have been so incredibly tired this week.  I feel like I can’t get enough sleep.  I’d like to try and sleep in this weekend.  The only true day that I will get to sleep in is on Sunday and that’s only IF the people upstairs are still not home.  If they are home, I’m sure I will be woken up at all hours of the night.  It’s sad but hopefully we won’t have to deal with it for much longer.  I pray we find a place to live soon!

Anyway, rather than bore you with leftovers that we had for dinner last night, I stumbled across an interesting article about one of my favorite things, Disney!  I thought I would share it with all of you because I think everyone holds a piece of Disney near and dear to their hearts.

This article or picture map from Yahoo , shows that animated Disney characters were inspired by real actors!  I never knew that the characters were inspired by real people.  I think that is so cool!  It also says that Lady and Tramp, one of my favorite movies, was inspired by a real dog.  The artist, Ed Penner encountered a scruffy stray who inspired Tramp.  The dog was actually a female that he found but it inspired him for the role of Tramp.  Tramp is one of the most romantic leading men in Disney history.  So let’s get to the inspiration!

First up, Snow White!  Snow White was inspired by model Marge Champion:

-

Alice in Wonderland was inspired by child actor Kathryn Beaumont.  She also provided the voices for Alice in Alice and Wonderland and Wendy in Peter Pan:

-

The look of Ursula the Seawitch from the Little Mermaid was inspired by drag performer, Divine:

-

For the inspiration of Ariel from the Little Mermaid, animators were inspired by then 16-year old, Alyssa Milano:

-

Pocohantas was inspired by Native American actress, Irene Bedard who also did the voice for Pocohantas in the movie:

-

The character of Aladdin was originally supposed to resemble Michael J Fox, but the producers thought he looked too boyish and decided to use Tom Cruise as inspiration:

-

I personally think Aladdin looks like DJ Tanner on Full House’s boyfriend, Steve.  True fact, the guy who played Steve, Scott Weinger is actually the voice of Aladdin and produces 90210!

Peter Pan was inspired by child actor, Bobby Driscoll, who also played the character on television in 1953:

-

Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) was inspired by Helene Stanley:

-

Captain Hook was inspired by Hans Conreid because of his strong and lively face:

-

Chernabog (from Fantasia) was inspired by Dracula actor, Bela Lugosi:

-

Lastly, Wicked Stepmother & Maleficent was inspired by actress, Eleanor Audley.  Her voice was also the wicked women of Cinderella and Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty:

-

What do you think?  Do you see the resemblance to any of the characters?  Do you think that another actor or actress could have been a better inspiration for a Disney character?

I think this is so interesting! I never stopped to think about who inspired these roles of the characters.  I think you just get so inspired and drawn in when watching a Disney movie that you don’t really stop to think of any of that.  I absolutely love Disney movies and I am trying to get all of them on either dvd or blu-ray.  I’d like to have an entire Disney collection together for when we have children.  I think it’s so important to show them the films that we grew up on.

I remember seeing the Little Mermaid in the movie theater for the first time.  I just remember how amazed at everything I was.  I think by the end of the movie, I was singing every song.  It was incredible.  I still have my favorite Disney movies and I could still to this day probably sing every song from all of them.  It just sticks with you for the rest of your life.  I love that about Disney!

Alright, now I’m making myself want to go to Disney World.  Boo!  Hopefully sometime in the near future.  I miss that place.

Have a great Thursday!
