Including these natural antibiotics in your daily diet increases your immunity so that your body can naturally fight disease. Widely prescribed for a wide spectrum of diseases, antibiotics do save lives. Sometimes, however,  they are not necessary and could be avoided. Antibiotic overuse has been linked to superbugs, which are strong antibiotic-resistant bacteria.  Antibiotics also disrupt the intestinal flora, making the body more susceptible to recurrent infections and more disease.

The following natural antibiotics work by increasing the body’s immunity, so that the need for antibiotics never arises. Some of these remedies work instead of antibiotics when bacterial infection is already present.

Colloidal Silver

The germicidal and antibacterial properties of colloidal silver were discovered through clinical cases and anecdotal evidence a while ago. Use it as a spray to disinfect wounds, as a nose spray at the onset of a cold and internally for a whole array of bacterial, viral and fungal conditions.

Oregano oil

The essential oil of oregano is well-known killer of fungi, bacteria and viruses. One study   found the  properties or oregano oil to be as effective as antibiotics. Three volumes of research by Paul Belaiche found that oregano oil killed 96% of all pneumococcus bacteria, 92% of all neisseria, proteus, and staphylococcus bacteria. Like anything, product strength can vary drastically.  Some oils sold as oregano are actually marjoram and not oregano at all. So, choose a reputable brand backed by research. Putting a drop of oregano oil on the sole of each foot makes it absorb into the bloodstream fast.

Olive Leaf Extract

Olive leaf extract is a powerful antibiotic and antiviral. Drs. O. and B. Lee at the Department of Biomedical Science at CHA University in Korea, found that olive leaf extract was potent against various microbes.  Additionally, their research showed olive leaf exhibited free radical scavenging abilities.  Free radicals are linked with aging and disease. This extract is easy to consume in a pill form.

Turmeric

Turmeric acts as an antibacterial agent and can be taken internally or applied directly to the skin. Try making turmeric into a paste by adding raw honey or colloidal silver to it and then applying to the infected site.

Garlic

The humble garlic is great at keeping infections at bay. Read about garlic’s five uses and benefits  for common ciolds. Garlic has been used to treat infectious diseases like pneumonia and MRSA. It can also kill intestinal parasites, which can wreak havoc on the immune system.

Wild Indigo

Wild Indigo is a powerful natural antibiotic and anti-inflammatory herb. It can help with sore throat, swollen glands, tonsillitis, bronchitis and mouth sores. Take 30-40 drops of the liquid, 3-4 times per day for up to 6 weeks. It also can be combined with echinacea.

Raw Honey

Raw honey is a powerful antibiotic. One study published in the journal Microbiology found that honey – particularly the kind derived from bees foraging on manuka flowers ( Manuka Honey) – halted one type of streptococcus pyogenes from inhibiting the healing of wounds. Other research shows that honey could be a potent answer to drug resistant bacteria like MRSA. Make sure the honey is raw. Honey loses its beneficial healing enzymes while heated.

Echinacea

Echinacea fights bacteria, fungi and viruses. It helps to stimulate the immune system by increasing production of the cells that attack infection. It can be taken in a liquid, tablet or capsule form every 2 hours for the first day of an illness. It is then taken three times per day for 7-10 days. Echinacea should not be taken for more than 10 days.
