PSI celebrated World Water Day this March 22. The international observance of World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. The United Nations General Assembly designated22 Marchof each year as the World Day for Water. PSI and other NGOs promoting safe drinking have used this World Day as a time to focus public attention on the safe drinking water crisis.
To learn more please visit the PSI world Water Day website at www.psi.org/wwd or read PSI's Water Works newsletter ( Download psi_safe_water_newsletter_march_08.pdf ). I recommend viewing the video of Melcy, a small business owner in Kenya, who tells her story and explains how using water guard has improved her life.
In addition, our colleagues from the Global Water Challenge spoke with National public radio about the global water crisis and what we can do to alleviate it.
