Withings WiFi Connected Body Scale Integrates with Microsoft HealthVault To Use WiFi to Record Your Weight

I don’t have a scale yet, but as you can see in reading here, you can connect the Withings Body Scale. Once connected your weight can automatically go to your personal health record, so in other words you won’t have to manually enter your weight. A couple weeks ago I wrote about the use of RazCode with the Withings Scale. RazCode encrypts Microsoft Tags. This solution announced in the press release here is another way to connect the Withings Scale if you are not set up with Tags yet. If you have not read the previous post, I recommend doing so to see how Windows Tags come in to play as well as a choice.
Since healthcare reform is in the news this week, you may also want to review this post from back in January. Biometric monitoring and behavioral underwriting is a big part of their plan and as you can see with the post below with another company that offers another scale; they may want your electronic data too in some form or another. As I have mentioned so many times before, biometric devices that report data seem to be getting the short end of the stick when it comes to defining “meaningful use” as this is a fast emerging market place and most have not had time to fully digest and comprehend what is happening out there with humans no longer entering all the data.
Perhaps the future in monitoring lies in a WiFi scale and other electronic devices that report data. The scale is pretty simple but when it comes to mobile devices, we need additional information relative to participatory sensing to determine what is disruptive and what can work in harmony with day to day life, as everyone knows we have a hard time with dealing with cell phones and calls, not to mention adding additional data reporting capabilities. Read the link below to see what studies are in progress to determine how mobility devices connecting with healthcare data are in the works.
I’m not sure I would want to “tweet” my weight and my Twitter readers would probably “fry” me if I did have a scale to do this, but it’s an option here as well. BD
Issy-les-Moulineaux, France – March 22, 2010 -- Withings, maker of the world’s first WiFi connected personal scale, today announced its integration with HealthVault, a personal health record platform that enables users to securely gather, store and share their medical information online. .
