Western's EM program takes another crown: Open Med Ed

Posted Apr 17 2012 1:36am

EM London 's video rounds just hit 2500 views, and soon I'll be uploading the 20th video. Despite issuing a challenge for anybody to take the Rounds Crown from us, there have been no contenders.

Never ones to rest on our laurels, our program is ready to take another crown and throw another gauntlet.

Thanks to the amazing work of program directors Drs. Robert Sedran (FRCP program) and Christine Richardson (CCFP-EM program), we will be moving to an open access curriculum, using the Creative Commons By-SA license on a Moodle platform. The moodle platform is up, and some final testing is going to happen before we start populating it with content.

This is a big deal for us and for everybody else. Western has a first rate emergency medicine program, with what must amount to millions of dollars already spent on developing our curriculum. Our program wins by having an online archive of our lectures, study plans and materials. We also win by exposing ourselves to the rest of the world, inviting feedback on how to be better doctors.

So now it's on. Who will challenge us for the crown? If you'd like to, email me or post in the comments. But fair warning: if you take the crown for Most Open Medical Education, we'll be hot on your heels to take it back.
