Wahiawa General First Hospital in Hawaii to Adopt iPhones at the Point of Care

Cutting-edge communication technology will soon be increasing the efficiency of nurses at Wahiawa General Hospital. Nurses and other point of care workers will be using iPhones as an integrated communication solution, thanks to Voalté’s first-of-its-kind healthcare application.
Voalté (nomenclature derived from Voice, Alarm, Text) consolidates all three functions on the versatile iPhone. The application enables users to send and receive presence-based text messages, make high definition voice calls across the hospital VoIP system, and receive critical care alarms on the iPhone, providing faster response to patient needs.
Wahiawa General, a nonprofit community hospital located on the island of Oahu, is the first acute care hospital to implement the communications solution in Hawaii. The installation will be operating with Meru Networks, a pioneer in 802.11 enterprise networking.
“Our goal is to deliver the very best care to every patient in our hospital. We are committed to providing state-of-the-art technology that will help our nurses provide quality care to our patients,” said Jason Fujinaka, CIO at Wahiawa General Hospital. “We evaluated voice badges and other communication solutions, but decided Voalté was the best solution at the leading edge of communication technology.”
