Cisco has been busy expanding their horizons into healthcare with all types of partnerships and the latest is with Verizon.  Telehealth and web consults and the image concept there of is growing.

Not too long ago I posted about the multi million dollar investment with United Healthcare and if you have not seen this, worth a look to see where all of this is moving.

Just last month I posted about Verizon Wireless and their offering for caregivers:

Verizon Wireless Gets Into Healthcare – OnCare from Xora for Caregivers

“AT&T has already been on this bandwagon, but now there’s a subscription through Verizon to use the software as well.  This is web based software designed for the caregivers traveling to visit patients in their homes, complete with a dispatch system to coordinate for larger organizations.  Will the caregivers know how to use it and is there adequate training here?  Just a question pondering around in my mind.”

American Well is also another provider in this area and I have written about their services a few times.  United Healthcare also works with American Well and is actively soliciting MDs to sign up to earn extra income by providing web cam visits, but read the provisions carefully there as you need to know what is in the agreement before getting started.  I get confused sometimes wondering if United is a technology or insurance company.  BD

The Medical Quack: Digital Doctor Visits are Up and Rising in the US

BASKING RIDGE, NJ – Verizon has unveiled a new telehealth service that allows healthcare providers to “see patients” through video consultations.

Verizon Business, a unit of Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Verizon Communications, has teamed up with San Jose Calif.-based Cisco to deliver the new service, which offers integrated audio, visual and video communication.

Verizon officials say the new offering, Telhealth Collaboration Services, allows healthcare providers to remotely consult with patients and other providers in real-time, allowing them to provide increased accessibility to specialty services, control costs of patient-provider encounters and more closely monitor patient health.

"These new IT capabilities will help hospitals, clinics and doctors' offices modernize the delivery of healthcare – a critical need throughout the U.S. healthcare system today," said Kapoor.
