Speech Recognition Microphones - Which is Best?

Posted Oct 30 2008 3:22pm

I have dabbled with speech recognition and input for a number of years. I know from discussion with colleagues that some are using speech recognition quite effectively in their practices. For specialists, speech recognition makes good sense as there is a real cost savings if transcription costs can be reduced. Some family physicians are also using speech recognition quite effectively.

I have recently obtained and begun to test the Philips SpeechMike Pro USB which I am quite impressed with. I am not a great fan of headset microphones in family practice settings because one has to take the head-set on and off multiple times during relatively short encounters. I had begun looking at handheld microphones because it appeared that these were more efficient. Used when needed - quickly put away when not needed.

I was wondering if visitors to CanadianEMR had experience using handheld microphones and which ones were found to be best. If you have had a positive experience using a headset microphone, please share your experience too. In addition, if you would like to make a comment about your use of speech recognition - this is the place to do it.
