Sixth Annual Summer Institute for Social Marketing & Health Communication

Posted Feb 18 2010 12:00am

Gary Ashwal, one of the readers of this blog, emailed me today to remind me about the upcoming Annual Summer Institute for Social Marketing & Health Communication at Emerson College in Boston. Why do I care? Well, I love Boston, really think highly of Emerson College, and spend a lot of time thinking about social marketing in healthcare. Here’s some information about this terrific program:

During the week of July 11, 2010, Emerson College in Boston will host the Sixth Annual Summer Institute for Social Marketing & Health Communication. The goal of the Institute is to bring communication and creative professionals together to work in interdisciplinary teams that apply social marketing theory and principles to some of the key social and health issues of our time. The five and a half days of the Summer Institute include interactive lecture and discussion sessions, case study presentations, networking with distinguished guest lecturers, and group exercises.

The Director and lead instructor for the Institute is Lynda Bardfield, Associate Director in Strategic Behavioral Communication at Family Health International (FHI), who brings over two decades of commercial and social marketing experience. Tim Edgar, Director of the Graduate Program in Health Communication at Emerson, is co-instructor.

Boston is a great city to visit during the summer. Many of the best restaurants have European-style outdoor seating. Emerson itself is called the Campus on the Common for Boston’s historic and attractive Common is right across from our classroom buildings. You can expect open-air concerts, theater performances, etc. during your stay in Boston.

Should you have any questions, you are encouraged to call the Department of Professional Studies and Special Programs at 617.824.8280 or e-mail Timothy_Edgar@emerson.edu. Please note that June 4 is the deadline for receipt of applications. After that date, applications will only be considered on a space-available basis. Please apply early. Application Form (PDF)
