Senate Approved Stimulus Bill!

The U.S. Senate approved its version of the stimulus bill on a 61-37 vote. Read more at the link above.

Next, the legislation has to be reviewed by a joint committee to resolve differences in the chamber's bills. But, in summary the bill includes the following for Health IT:

  • $20 billion to fund Medicare & Medicaid incentives for Health IT,
  • $3 billion in "jump start" funds to disseminate grants and loans to increase Health IT adoption, and
  • Funds for telemedicine grants and loans, enhanced IT for Indian Health Service facilities and improved interoperability for first responders.

Great news for healthcare IT adoption. I was worried about it, but this is indeed good news for providers who want to "jump" from the paper-age to the digital-age.
