Profit at Humana Rises 65% – Employer Enrollment Down Medicare Advantage Grows

The company reported a better than expected result.  As with most of the other carriers, the employer ranks continue to fall as either it’s too expensive or small employers are dropped.  BD 

Humana, the health insurer, posted on Monday a 65 percent jump in third-quarter profit, as bulging membership and premiums from imageMedicare Advantage overcame a lackluster commercial segment.

But the company said enrollment in its plans sold to employers fell by 7.6 percent from a year ago, contributing to a pretax loss in its commercial segment.
