Prism EPO by Empire Being Withdrawn

Posted Dec 08 2011 4:47pm

Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield is withdrawing their most popular plan for small groups (Prism EPO) as well as other plans effective April 1 2012.

The decision came following intense negotiations between Empire Blue Cross and state regulators which resulted in EMpire not being able to set their rates based on their own actuarial analysis and anticipation of higher medical claims in the state.

This decision will force many small businesses in the Hudson Valley region to find a new health insurer even if they have recently renewed.

Going forward, Empire Blue Cross will focus on the Mid and Large Group health insurance market which is based on experience rating and not community rating.
