NHS in the UK issues warning to Cerner and iSoft Contractor

Just recently in the news there was also a situation in Chicago that questioned a Cerner installation.  With so much going on at present, it’s really hard to comment one way or another as software vendors definitely have their hands full today.   This could be more of an issue with the contractor too.  Check out the related reading below and you can see a multitude of projects Cerner is currently involved with, including adding genomics to the medical records too, a big project to say the least.  It appears this is a question of whether or not the system from Cerner will perhaps provide what the NHS has requested, so again without any details, it’s hard to comment one way or another and they are working with existing software installations that may need upgrading or replacement too.   Cerner has many hospital installations in place in the US.  BD 

The National Health Service in England wants to see Cerner Corp. and British software vendor iSoft quickly improve their ability to implement electronic health records software.

Cerner and iSoft are the EHR subcontractors of prime contractors BT and Computer Sciences Corp. in the Connecting for Health national I.T. program. Christine Connelly, the Department of Health's CIO, has told BT and CSC that they and their partners have until November to prove they can effectively implement EHRs, according to multiple British media reports. The program is four years behind schedule.

The NHS is opening competition to other vendors to offer EHRs in England's Southern Region. CSC and BT have had that business since last May, when NHS terminated prime contractor Fujitsu.
