We have written at length about the struggles Massachusetts has experienced since revamping their own healthcare laws and requiring people to purchase health insurance. A man is currently suing the state, claiming he cannot be forced to purchase health insurance because he simply cannot afford to do so. He does not make enough money to cover the cost and his wife recently lost her job.
I suspect that we will see this play out in other areas across the country after the federal mandate begins in 2014. The law does say that in cases of "financial hardship" exceptions may occur. But it is unclear what will define a "financial hardship." Again, this detail comes little by little as regulations are drafted.
Watch the story below and let us know what you think. Will you be able to afford this cost?
