Making iPad’s work for Clinicians

Posted Jul 25 2012 8:14am

iPad’s are everywhere now in Healthcare and their use is only expected to increase as more and more clinicians take advantage of the opportunity to go mobile. The only problem with them is, they can be a bit tricky to hold and keep clean under normal circumstances and Healthcare presents far from normal circumstances everyday.

If you’re like me, balancing an iPad to scan email while holding a coffee can be an extremely difficult feet of coordination. I can only imagine how difficult it is for a Physician to read an EHR screen while attending to a patient’s care…

Enter the Griffin AirStrap Med , which is an iPad case designed specifically for medical professionals. The case was developed in consultation with physicians and nurses to adapt the original AirStrap case to the specific needs of a Healthcare environment.

The case allows full functional use of the iPad with one hand while freeing the other to provide care to patients. More importantly than even the convenience of the case, it also is designed to stay clean which is a real problem for tablet use in hospitals.

The frame is made with a built in shield that securely closes around the iPad, sealing it from moisture and fluids. It is also nonporous, non-slip and is fully sanitizable with standard cleaning and sterilization products.

While mobility is a great feature, many cases and solutions exist on the market to address this issue however very few accessory manufactures have developed products that can meet the sanitation and infectious disease control requirements of hospitals and the Healthcare industry.

As tablets become more and more integrated into work flows and by their very nature are meant to be touched, it’s certainly going to be a problem that needs to be addressed which makes it a great market for Healthcare savvy companies like Griffin .
