Former Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, helped put Florida on the forefront of consumer healthcare advances by signing Medicaid reform legislation called "Empower Care" in 2006. Recently he spoke at Premier healthcare alliance's 2011 Governance Education Conference.
We had a chance to talk with him about his ideas on how to fix healthcare in this country. He explains that many ideas that President Obama has come up with are not necessarily bad ideas, they are just mid-20th century solutions to a dysfunctional system. He also adds that patients, who are the real consumers of healthcare, need to be more engaged in the process. Bush says they need to know what they are paying for in order to see true cost reform and to take waste out of the system.
