Surgery for back problems has certainly changed and one more device has been approved by the FDA.  I have covered several of them and provided image some links at the bottom of this post, so before having back surgery, do some homework as things are changing rapidly.  BD

CHICAGO, May 27 (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it approved Medtronic Inc's ( MDT.N ) artificial cervical disc, a titanium and polyurethane device that fits between adjacent neck bones to replace a diseased or bulging cervical disc that often causes neck pain.

The FDA cleared the device, called Bryan, on May 12, 2009, the agency said on its website on Wednesday.  The mages below may not be the exact representation of the disc approved, but is from the Medtronic web site page relative to cervical discs.
