Steve Aylward, General Manager for Health and Life Sciences at Microsoft® discusses the future of Microsoft in Healthcare with EHRtv. In this interview, he describes Microsoft's top 3 objectives for the future:

  • Search,
  • Cloud Computing, and
  • Health Care

Microsoft may be a "software giant," but Google has certainly dominated the "Search" market for years now. Microsoft's search tool is " Bing"- so stay tuned.... Recently, I have looked at blog stats and more and more visits are getting here through Bing searches.

Cloud Computing is an up-and-coming, maturing platform trend in computing. Just like we went from paper to mainframe platforms, mainframes to client-server, and client-server to the Internet, software is being developed that will run on the Internet in real-time, anywhere, anytime access. SalesForce.com is a first mover in this space.

And finally... the interest of this post... Health Care...

As was mentioned in the video, Microsoft with their product, Health Vault has established a "partnership-of-sorts" with Allscripts. I find this particularly interesting because one of the 2013 measures in the Meaningful Use Matrix is the ability of providers/facilities to give real-time access to a patient's health information. I suspect one of the ways in which this measure will be implemented is in the form of data exchange between a physician or facility's EHR and a patient's PHR. Standards are being developed for data exchange. Interoperabillity is the new buzz word.

A quality video by EHRTv. If you're interested in watching more, check out their site.
