This summer Charles River was making an effort to buy a Chinese company but the shareholders said no and this appears to be the aftermath as business from pharmaceutical companies is declining.
It did cost a few million to get out of the deal too. There are 30 workers here and 300 in Massachusetts that will lose jobs. BD
Charles River Laboratories International (NYSE: CRL ) is closing its discovery and molecular imaging facility in Ann Arbor, MI, as part of a plan to save the struggling company $40 million in annual expenses.
The Wilmington, MA-based contract research firm reported yesterday that it’s cutting 4 percent of its global work force in response to weakened demand from its pharmaceutical clients; that involves the company laying off 300 workers, leaving it with 7,500 employees globally, spokeswoman Amy Cianciaruso said today.
