CalRHIO in Orange County to Work with United Health Care

Posted May 20 2009 1:08pm

23 hospitals in Orange County will be connected with information for the ER departments.   United Healthcare announced they would be contributing patient information from their data bases.  July 2009 has been the targeted date for the roll out.  It would also be nice to have PHR functionality here too so patients could also have the information from the ER room in a personal health account.  United offers a PHR to members on their website.  BD

CYPRESS, CA – The California Regional Health Information Organization is collaborating with UnitedHealthcare to provide support for image California's statewide electronic health information exchange initiative.

CalRHIO's HIE initiative is designed to help deliver patient information in a secure way to facilities that serve clients of UnitedHealthcare insurance plans. Orange County will be the first deployment location, rolling out the initiative this summer in emergency departments in collaboration with the Orange County Partnership Regional information Organization (OCPRHIO).

The use of health information provided by UnitedHealthcare to CalRHIO will be restricted to patient care and protected and distributed under medical privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
