Are You a Meeting/Conference Junkie?

Posted Jan 02 2011 3:42pm

Why do we attend so many conferences and professional meetings? Some of us live in conferences. We attend all the important ones. I’d go so far to say some of us have become meeting junkies. We feel most alive professionally when at a conference. We feel it is good to be there. We are learning, connecting, growing. We are inspired, motivated, and recommit to change our schools and ourselves as educators and leaders. The point of going to conferences is to become strong and come back and apply what we learn. But how many of us actually do that? I have learned that we can sit and listen (whether on Twitter, in online conferences, or at ISTE) until our bottoms our flat, but it is what we do that really matters- not what we hear. The real measure of value from attending meetings and conferences is application of what you hear.  Actually using the wisdom gained to shift.

Are you? Please do tell how. What have you heard that you were able to turn into action?
