Besides the Urethra, some Urinary Tract infection (UTI), can involve the prostate (Prostatitis) , bladder, or kidneys. Symptoms may include urinary frequency and urgency, dysuria, lower abdominal pain, nausea, and flank pain.
The diagnosis of UTI is confirmed by a
urine test sample.
If the urine culture is negative:
* symptoms of urethritis may point at Chlamydia trachomatis or Neisseria gonorrheae infection.
* symptoms of cystitis may point at interstitial cystitis.
* prostatitis may be present with dysuria.
Oral antibiotics are the main treatment for all UTIs.
