U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will discuss the value of the arts, a well-rounded curriculum and the inclusion of students with disabilities at the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of an art exhibition by students from around the world at 10 a.m. Monday, June 7, in the Department’s Auditorium, 400 Maryland Ave. S.W. The exhibition of 26 works of art is hosted by the Department and presented in conjunction with VSA as part of the 2010 International VSA Festival. This year’s theme is “Aroma: Scents of My World.” The art opening also will feature performances by two award winning artists—classical pianist Briana Duensing and Sri Lankan dancer Kosala Uditha Kumara Dullewa.

VSA, an affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, was founded more than 35 years ago by Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith to create a society where people with disabilities could learn through, participate in and enjoy the arts.
