Event Date 1: April 26, 2011 10:00 am - April 26, 2011 12:00 pm
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will join W. Steven Barnett, director of the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) to release "The State of Preschool 2010" annual report at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26 at Oyster-Adams Bilingual School in Washington, D.C. Oyster-Adams Bilingual Elementary School offers a nationally and internationally recognized bilingual program for grades pre-k to eighth.
The NIEER annual report ranks all 50 states on quality standards, funding and access to state preschool programs. This year's report shows that the recession continues to impact state preschool programs, with a decrease in total spending by states, as well as spending per child. W. Steven Barnett will discuss the report's national findings and their implications and Marci Young, project director, Pre-K Now, Pew Center on the States, will discuss the federal role in helping states protect and expand their pre-k programs.
The National Institute for Early Education Research, a unit of the Graduate School of Education, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, supports early childhood education policy by providing objective, nonpartisan information based on research.
