The Truth About Energy Drinks

energy drinks

The fad of energy drinks is continuing to grow in the lives of North Americans and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Most people realize that these energy drinks are bad for you but they don’t realize just how bad. In just one energy drink you will get more then your daily sugar intake, an unhealthy amount of caffeine  and a surprising amount of empty calories. Some of the shocking side effects of energy drinks are:

  • dizziness
  • nausea
  • irritability
  • irregular heart beat
  • type 2 diabetes
  • liver damage

These side effects are not worth it for the short bust of energy you get from one of these drinks. So it may be time to reconsider whether or not your a person who lives on energy drinks or one who doesn’t.

Just because your feeling a little tired or drowsy doesn’t mean you should go for the quick fix, like in most cases its going to get worse before it gets better. Take the smart approach and kick the feeling with a natural antidote such as:

  • Teas and coffee- When your drinking a higher volume of caffeine your body becomes less effected by it, causing you to drink more and more. Teas and coffee offer a much healthier dose of caffeine and teas especially offer many other health benefits such as antioxidants which can help prevent cancers.
  • Hit the gym- Going to the gym when your a little down will boost your energy levels naturally by releasing testosterone and  other endorphins into your body, making you less tired and more aware.
  • Sleep- The best thing you can do for your body and mind when your tired is sleep. It may not always be the most time efficient option but when your tired you need rest plain and simple. So try to get in 7-8 hours a night, the importance of sleep is crucial to overall health

When its all said and done energy drinks are like fast food, they will give your body what it wants for right now but you will be paying for it later in the day, especially when you come down off your sugar rush and feel like your head weighs more then a bowling ball.
