Senior Official to Discuss Value of Increased Learning at Expanded Learning Convening in Boston

Michael Yudin, acting assistant secretary of the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, will participate in a panel discussion at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the 2011 Expanded Learning Convening in Boston. He is part of a panel, “Common Core, Turnarounds and ESEA: The Impact,” that will provide an in-depth look at the role federal and state policy efforts play in the movement to increase learning time. Yudin’s remarks will focus on the need for increased learning time as a lever for potentially improving student achievement.

The two-day event, hosted by the National Center for Time and Learning and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will begin on Tuesday and run through Wednesday, Oct. 26. Education leaders and policymakers will come together to explore the benefits of expanding learning time through a series of content sessions, keynote speakers, site visits and dialogue.
