Senior Education Officials to Address Philanthropists at Grantmakers for Education Conference

Juan Sepúlveda, executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, John S. Wilson, executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Alberto Retana, the U.S. Department of Education’s director of community outreach, will address philanthropists at 2 p.m. CDT on Thursday, Oct. 28, during the Grantmakers for Education conference. The conference will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New Orleans.

All three will speak to Grantmakers as panelists in various breakout sessions. Sepulveda and Wilson will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Latino-serving institutions and HBCUs on their panel, titled “The Culture of College Success: Tapping the Power and Potential of Minority-Serving Institutions.” Retana will highlight community engagement efforts for “Youth Can’t Wait: How Young People Are Driving Equity-Based School Reform.”
