FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 11, 2012 - As an update to the 09/27/2012 press release by Oregon Ice Cream Company in Eugene, Oregon, additional lot codes are now included in this recall. Oregon Ice Cream Company is issuing this voluntary recall linked to the Sunland, Inc recall to minimize the risk to the public health.
Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy. The most common manifestations of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.
The list below identifies the production lots which are being recalled due to their potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Distribution of these products was nationwide.
Anyone who has the recalled product in their possession should not consume it and should destroy or discard the product. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-282-2202 Monday- Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Pacific Time).
This recall is being made with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration.
