my tonsils are swollen on both sides and it hurts to even drink to soothe the pain of swallowing whats the cause?

for 3 days now i have had swollen tonsils and so far it seems to be getting worse not better at first it was just swollen but now its painful to swallow i try to drink things to soothe it but afterwords it feels worse i havent done anything outside my usual activities nore have i been around anyone sick what could be wrong with me? and is there a fix
