A four-year-old girl with symptoms similar to those of the werewolf syndrome has been diagnosed with congenital melanocytic nevus - a pigmented birthmark found in infants at birth.

On Wednesday, doctors at the Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and  Pharmacy University Hospital said Le Thi Thuy Linh of the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang can be treated to get rid of the birthmark but it would take a long time.

Previously, after Thanh Nien ran an article about Linh’s strange condition, some philanthropists brought Linh to the HCMC Medicine and Pharmacy University Hospital for examination.

The hospital said it will provide free-of-charge treatment for Linh from the middle of next month. The girl had black patches on her cheeks and neck when she was born.Hair gradually began to grow on them, while more black spots appeared on her stomach, back, arms and legs. As she grew older, the spots on the back grew larger.

When Linh was born, local doctors failed to explain her condition, merely advising her family to take her to the city for treatment. But the family could not act on the advice because they could not afford it.
