Today is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate and honor women’s contributions across the globe, and to bring awareness to women who are still suffering daily. This year’s theme is “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women.”
The theme hopes to strengthen the international community’s commitment to ending violence against women worldwide. Countries all over the world are working together with the United Nations’ UNITE campaign to help prevent violence against women.
Women and men across the world have also come together and created, “ One Woman ,” a song that showcases unity and solidarity; the song will be released today.
Secretary of State, John Kerry, released a statement honoring women worldwide, including the United States’ current 20 female senators. “The United States joins people around the globe in honoring women and celebrating their contributions toward building a more peaceful, just, and prosperous world,” Kerry said in a written statement .
