How to offer sufficient iron in the diet

(HealthDay News) -- Iron deficiency in toddlers can affect their physical, behavioral and mental development, and lead to anemia.

The Nemours Foundation suggests how to help your child get enough dietary iron:

  • Don't let your child drink endless amounts of milk; keep it to between 16 ounces and 24 ounces daily.
  • Offer your child enough iron-rich foods, including fish, poultry, meat, beans and tofu.
  • Provide iron-fortified snacks.
  • Give your child iron-fortified cereals.
