U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will join Acting U.S. Under Secretary of State Ann Stock and the Indonesian Minister of National Education Mohammad Nuh in opening the U.S.-Indonesia Higher Education Summit at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31. The day-long summit will continue the work of the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership, which focuses on strengthening academic ties between the two countries. The partnership has expanded exchange, research, and training opportunities for Indonesian and American students and faculty.
Discussions throughout the day will highlight a range of issues, including innovation and research collaboration, teacher preparation, and the role of community colleges. More than 100 higher education leaders from both nations will attend. Following the day’s events, Secretary Duncan and Indonesian Director General of Education Djoko Santoso will close the conference with final remarks at 4:30 p.m.
The summit will be held at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. Members of the press who are interested in attending should RSVP to press@ed.gov by 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31.
