Department Official to Discuss Innovations in Education at Venture Capital in Education Summit in New York

Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for the Office of Innovation and Improvement, will participate in the opening panel discussion titled, “Why Education is the New New Market” at the 2010 Venture Capital in Education Summit in New York on Wednesday, June 9.

Shelton will talk about the Department’s programs and initiatives supporting educational innovations that will enrich students’ learning experiences in their schools and communities. Shelton and his co-panelists also will discuss the trends and issues driving fundamental change in cradle to career education.

The summit will bring together industry leaders and innovators, entrepreneurs and investors to learn more about the P-20 education sectors and to build stronger bridges between the early-stage investment community and the businesses transforming the education landscape. The 2010 Venture Capital in Education Summit is sponsored by Berkery Noyes, an independent investment bank, and Startl, a not-for-profit dedicated to accelerating the growth of digital innovations for learning.
