I feel like autumn always sneaks up on me. One week I’m enjoying a summer vacation at the beach, and the next thing I know I’m driving down the road in a shower of brightly colored leaves.
I had a beautiful drive in the country last weekend. I was taking my kids to an environmental education center in the area, and during our drive and our hike we enjoyed the blue sky, cool air, and beautiful colors beginning to emerge on the mountain sides. It’s a complex environmental process that causes the variety and intensity in the fall colors of our deciduous forests, and it sure is lovely to behold.
