U.S. Assistant Secretary for the Office of Vocational and Adult Education Brenda Dann-Messier will participate in a roundtable discussion on adult education, workforce development, and the Community College initiative with Rep. Patrick Kennedy and Employment and Training Administration Assistant Secretary Jane Oates Monday, Aug. 30 in Riverside, R.I.
The discussion will be held at Local 51, a state of the art training center that is the nation’s premier union training facility. The discussion will also look at other adult education and workforce development programs, such as the Stepping Up program, an urban community partnership between local hospitals, education and training providers, and labor unions that provides training, education, career coaching, and support services to help individuals develop careers in the health industry.
Joining the discussion will be Keith Stokes, executive director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, and Sandra Powell, director of the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, as well as numerous leaders of labor and workforce development.
