That is what made me enjoy the weekend the most.  It was getting to be active.  After being on the couch all of last week, my body was itching to move.  I still haven’t completely shaken the headache (it was definitely there Saturday & Sunday) but I don’t feel like I have a fever anymore.  I am still awaiting the results of my CT Scan, but I don’t really expect it to be anything but normal.

So to make up for the missed week, I attempted to be as active as possible.  And seeing I haven’t really run since the week before we went to Jamaica, I had definitely lost some endurance.  But my knee felt fine.

Friday

I left work around 4:30ish on Friday and headed over to the gym. I decided that I could just walk on the treadmill if I wanted to.  I just knew I needed to get moving.  And I really wanted to help flush all the crap they put into my system for the ct scan.

I felt better on the treadmill than I expected to.

run0612

I did 55 minutes. I walked at 3.8 mph at an 8% incline for 10 minutes, then jogged for 10 minutes at about 5.5mph, then did the incline walk for 10 minutes, jogged for 10 minutes, incline walk for 10 minutes and then a 5 minute cool down.  4.28 miles at 12:50 pace.

Saturday

I knew I wanted to go for a run on the W&OD trail Saturday morning.  I wanted to go for an hour, but I knew that I couldn’t run for an hour straight after not running for over 2 weeks.  But I figured if I walk/ran for 60 minutes, then I would start to build back up my endurance.

My Nikeplus receiver got screwed up, so I had to restart.

run0613a

5:32 warm up walk.  .36 miles, Pace: 15:15.

run0613b

Here is the actual run.  What I did was–I would run for 10 minutes, then walk for 5 minutes, run for 10, walk for 5.  I did this repeat for the 55 minutes.  Anyway, pace: 11:13 per mile, 5.17 miles.

Total run on Saturday: 63 minutes and 38 seconds.  Distance: 5.53 miles.  I was pretty happy with this!

Sweaty and in my car post run.

The rest of Saturday was active, active, active.  I rode my bike to the farmer’s market (7.5 miles round trip).  In between the run and riding to the market, I ate a yummy breakfast oat cookie

We went to a cookout with some good friends of mine from grad school.  And got to see their adorable little girl (3 months old) for the first time.

I didn’t end up eating anything at the cookout.  Had a beer or two and played some yard games.

Then Saturday evening Justin and I rode our bikes in the rain (I was maybe a bit intoxicated from those beers) to pick up take out.  That was another 4.5 miles round trip.

Sunday

We were even more productive Sunday than we were Saturday.  I woke up before Justin (no big surprise there!) and headed out to the grocery store to get the shopping done with.  I love when I am motivated enough to do this while the store is fairly empty.  When I got home Justin was outside mowing the grass and we planned out our day.  My to-do list went something like this:

*Bake Bread for the week
*Clean veggies/fruit from stores and put away
*Thin out my garden (which is growing like wildfire!)
*Do a load of laundry
*Wash my car
*Bike Ride
*100 Pushup, 200 Situp Challenge

I was impressed, I got just about everything done before going to sleep last night!  I baked 2 loaves of wheat sandwich bread, came out perfectly.   And last week, despite feeling like crap, I still managed to do 3 days worth of workouts for the pushup and situp challenge.  It is A LOT harder than I expected!

And the bike ride….We knew we were having dinner out at Justin’s parents house, so we decided to ride our bikes there.  We had no idea how long the ride was going to be.  We thought it could be any where from 20-30 miles. We knew two things for sure:

*It was a 5.50 mile ride from our house to the W&OD trailhead
*There was a MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE mountain that we had to ride up from the Loudoun County high school to his parents house.  This truly meant that the final 2 miles of the ride were an EXTREMELY steep climb.  Cyclist come from all over to ride up this mountain because the challenge it gives.

We had no idea how long of a ride it was on the W&OD trail to the Loudoun County High school.  It ended up being much shorter than we expected.  The entire ride only was 14.50 miles.  We had no idea his parents lived so close.  But that final hill lived up to ever fear that we had…and a bit more.  It is one of those hills where you put your bike in the lowest gear it has (and you have to do this before getting on the hill because it is so steep you will pop your chain otherwise) and you sit down and just crack…your aim is to keep moving so you don’t fall over.  And remind yourself to breath with some control.

It felt like such an accomplishment!

And well, that was my weekend.  I am so happy that I feel better and I am so glad that I had an active weekend.  I feel like I have put on a few pounds lately…my clothes feel tighter.  Who knows.  I haven’t touched my scale in months and I have to say I am so much happier.  I just need to try and eat extra healthy this week and I am sure those extra lbs will disappear.  I haven’t counted calories in ages either.  And it feels so much better.  The anxiety and pressure from calorie counting is gone, and I can’t explain how much happier that makes me!

Thoughts

If you have read my blog (this one and Sweets & Sweats) long enough, you will know that I constantly am working to make myself a better person.  I really think I have made great strides in the realm of happiness and self esteem.  And just overall personal acceptance.  It feels great and I am so proud of myself for taking the initiative and continuing to work towards these goals.  I am obviously still a major work in progress.  I have steps forwards and still have steps backwards, but I just hope that in general, I am having more forward steps than backwards steps.

My question to you hotties:

Are you like me and always feel like you can strive to make you a better version of you?   Are you currently working on improving any particular aspect of yourself?  If so, what?  And what are things about yourself that you want to improve upon in the future?

Enjoy that Monday and pray for me to be headache-free!
