This last weekend, I had been in fellowship with a sister in Christ. Of course, this weekend was no different from the previous ones. We had awesome time of fellowship, eating and relaxing. But, after some time lapsed, my friend's laughter and joy turned to sadness. I asked her for the reason, and she reminded me that she would have to return home -- home being, some 200 miles away-- and that she would find it difficult to continue through her difficulties without my support.
While we parted, happy to have been together, but saddened by the distance between us, I couldn't help but think of her countenance as I went about my days that week. I asked God, "What are you doing with our lives, and how do I fit in to Yours?" I was burdened by her despair, and wondered why my heart was just as heavy as hers was over our separation and her travels through her "desert?" Later, as I studied Isaiah 34, I found God's message ... and His answer to my questions were, Trust Me.
Trusting God is not always easy. I will admit that despite all of God's promises in His word, and all of the answers I have received from Him (and the good and amazing things he's given me) I still doubt. It is a process that can take months, if not years to complete, but it is well worth it. And even then, once we think we've conquered trust, there will always be something to bubble up through our faith to mess with our clear belief in Christ and His purpose.
My friends, God has carried me through all of my dry seasons, and all of my difficulties! And just as God did it for me, He can do it for you, and He can do it for my friend. But in order to see the result, in order to see the answer He seeks to give to us, we have to trust him.
It would have been so easy for her to stay with me-- to help her through her difficulty. But her season is not my season. She had to return to her place of dryness for a little while. As we fellowshiped together, God was giving her a preview of her breakthrough that was to come- and some times when we see the oasis in the desert, we don't want to travel another step in the dust and dirt to get there! Yet, we must.
Be encouraged today. Do not be distracted by your desert. God has declared in his word that "... you will be glad. You will also rejoice and blossom. Water will gush forth in your wilderness and streams in your desert" (Isaiah 35:6 KJV).
Water in a desert may sound absurd, but absurdity is sometimes how God works. Through the impossible, He delivers! "But gladness and joy has overtaken me and my sorrow and sighing has fleed away" (Isaiah 35: 10).
Trust God today to keep you because he is well able. There is nothing to hard for him. "Be strong and do not fear. Our God is coming and he will save you" (Isaiah 35:4). And as much as He will do this for me, He too will do this for you. Trust Him!
