“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him” Psalm 28:7 (NIV).
Everybody has their bad days. Even couples who both live for Christ have challenging days. But those who are standing alone in Christ in their marriage seem to have more to battle against. Seem to have more. It just seems more lonely and I feel isolated. It seems like everyone has a better life than mine. Then I turn my eyes to my God. He becomes my strength through the storm. I find myself believing that my life would be so much better if I had a Christian husband. And you know what? Maybe it would be. Maybe it wouldn't be. I don't know. What I do know is this - here I am and here I will stand with Jesus. I can't worry about the "what ifs". I need to trust in the Lord.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” Proverbs 3:5-6.
“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” Isaiah 40:31.
My hope is in the Lord. In him I will renew my strength. Like the eagle in a storm I will let the strong winds lift me above the clouds and I will rest in Him.
There are so many passages in the Bible where it tells me that God gives us strength. Its in there because He knows we are weak without him. It's great to praise Him when the sun is shining and more rewarding when we praise Him during the storms.
My Neighbor
“To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices" Mark 12:33
My husband is my neighbor. When he is unloveable I need to be loveable. There are many times when I need the strength of God to be loveable. God gives me strength in many ways. He gives me strength through my children with a kind word from them or they offer to do a chore without having to be told. I'm strengthened when my children talk about praying for something as if its their second nature. This means a lot to me because it has always been a concern of mine that my children will choose not to know God.
"If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen" 1 Peter 4:11.
Be blessed, be strong and may the Joy of the Lord be your strength!
Karen Lynn Evans has a passion to reach out to those who serve God when their spouses don’t. She encourages Christians that they can have the victory even if they are the only one living for Christ in their home.
