Old routines, running groups, podcast

Posted Jan 08 2012 11:19am

Why hello.  Happy Sunday.  I decided to eat breakfast and run later in the hope that I will catch some sunlight and have a little energy to run 8 miles instead of 7.  We’ll just see about that.  So while the food digests (I have an awesome stomach… usually) I’ll blog and do some school reading stuff.  Yesterday was…weird.  The internet was out for most of the day and there was mystery water on my bathroom after my shower.  Hmmm.  I also discovered Portlandia .  Such a strange, yet amusing show.  Has anyone seen it?  It’s streaming on Netflix FYI.

On to the happiness.

1.  Old routines.  Yesterday I got back to my Saturday morning routine.  After a couple of weeks at home, it felt really good to get back.  I went to my favorite spinning class and saw some familiar faces and TONS of new ones (hello January joiners) but it was AWESOME.  Sweaty…challenging.  Perfect.  Then I went to my favorite fruit stand that sells freakishly cheap produce.  BUt they are ethical (i.e. have personal relationships with the farmers directly) so it is a MAJOR WIN! Hello honeycrisp apples for 1.25 per pound.  Getting back in that routine made me feel energized and back in the ‘school mode’.

2.  Running groups.  Last Wednesday I ran with a group! This is new and different for me.  I have run with people before.  I actually ran with a group when I lived at home several years ago on Tuesday afternoons.  However, due to my running schedule (5:15 am or bust) I have a hard time finding a good group.  BUT there is a HUGE group that runs on Wednesday mornings at the lake where I run.  The are called the Greenlake Running Club.  They also run Saturdays but I do my long runs on Sundays and they have afternoon runs.  BUT this Wednesday morning groups works well with me this quarter.  So I ran 4 miles by myself and 3.1 with them.  Conclusion?  WOW does it fly by when you are talking with strangers!!! I was sort
a afraid they would go too fast or too slow but I just sorta fell in.  My legs were tight and tired that morning so I just wanted a nice distraction while I was moving the legs.  Here are my splits.  Generally I run faster but whatever.  It was FUN.
Plus I ran a pretty fast run on Friday:
I enjoy when I can run 7 miles in under an hour. Nice and round timing makes me happy.

3.  Podcasts.  I have rediscovered Podcasts! A true NPR junkie I download This American Life, NPR Food and NPR It’s all politics.  I want more!!! Anyone else know any cool Podcasts??

Okay.  On ward with the day.

Xo, Emily
