Inertia: Physics property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or motion unless and external forse is applied.
How many of you have experienced inertia in your life? You know... the times when it feels so difficult to start something new or to end something you've been doing for a while? It isn't just you... it reallyis more difficult to start or end something, than to just keep going with the status quo. You must exert extra effort to begin a new task or create a new habit. The same goes for breaking a habit also.
Let's look a little closer at the idea of starting something. When I have something that I need to do, but find that I am having difficulty starting, I start small. For example, I will commit myself to working on a project for 15 minutes. I like 15 minute increments because it is short enough that it doesn't feel overwhelming and long enough to get going. If I want to stop after 15 minutes, I stop. Typically, though, once I am going I decide to keep going for a while longer. Once I have the ball rolling, it is easier to keep going.
What ways do you see inertia effecting you? What things do you do to overcome inertia?
