Intuition

Posted Sep 14 2008 5:26pm

Intuition is a sudden or direct knowing without the use of logic or conscious reasoning.

We all have intuitive potential. It is not something that only a few gifted people possess. It is a natural ability that we all have and a skill we can all develop. You may experience intuition as a sudden "knowing," gut feelings, thoughts, images, or sensations. Intuition is a powerful source of information, inspiration, and creativity.

As children we freely access our intuition. Unfortunately, we often receive negative messages from our parents, teachers, or peers and we then begin to doubt our intuition. Once we lose that trust in our intuitive knowledge and in ourselves we begin to close down that avenue of information. We still receive intuitive messages, but we ignore or disregard them. When we do not honor these intuitive impulses, our ability to hear our intuitive voice often fades and we miss valuable information.

However, we don't completely lose the ability to be intuitive. With a little patience and practice we can rediscover our powerful intuitive potential and develop the necessary skills to use our intuition to guide us on a daily basis. When we follow our intuition our life flows more easily, things seem to fall into place, and we are generally more satisfied because we know we are connected to our own inner wisdom and are living on purpose.

If you want to develop your natural intuitive abilities, the best place to start is by honoring the intuitive impulses you already have. Even if you did nothing more than increase your awareness of your current intuitive impulses and honor them, you would find a dramatic difference in your ability. In addition, you can try guided imagery, meditation, journaling, yoga, and other techniques that help you get centered and tuned into your true Self.

So next time you have one of those gut feelings or you get a sudden knowing, take a risk and trust this intuitive message. With some practice you will soon find that the greater risk comes from ignoring our intuition.

I would love to hear your thoughts about intuition and how you use it in your daily life.
