I've officially begun working toward my goal of reading works by the 100 greatest writers of all time.
Yesterday I visited my local library to see what I could find. To kick off my reading journey, I picked up Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and The Girl with the Golden Eyes by Honore' de Balzac. As I passed the shelf with Phillip Roth's books, I couldn't resist grabbing The Ghost Writer as well.
As I studied the list, I decided I should focus on novelists. With that in mind, I also decided to find a list of greatest novels. I came across one on the Time Magazine website that floats my boat. Time critics Lev Grossman and Richard Lacayo chose the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to present .
Again, I'm ashamed to report that I've only read ~30% of the authors on the list. I've got work to do! Watch for short blog reports on each book as I make my way through the two lists. I'm starting with Heart of Darkness.
