I asked myself this question this morning on my way to work with some team leaders in Newcastle. After preparing everything for today’s training and the final packing for our Middle East trip I’d got about 3 hours sleep. I felt exhausted but how did I want to feel? I wanted to feel capable, excited, alive in order to get the best result for the people I was working with today.
I sorted through and found the latest Runrig CD and shoved that in the car stereo, at the same time thinking about how it would feel to be heading South on the M1 tonight on my way to my next international training assignment. Since these are significant anchors for me I instantly felt all of the things I wanted and more, happy that it was Friday, pleased to be working with Gavin again and also that reality check feeling – hang on is this really happening?
We can choose to feel whatever way we want. We are not prisoners of our emotions. If your feelings are not helpful then choose some different ones. Instruct your brain on how you would prefer to feel at this moment and let it get on with it.
Ask yourself every day how do I want to feel today?
